Driving Permits

Motor vehicles in the Wasteland are more than transportation — they are rare, resource-hungry machines that impact both the story and the stability of the sim. To keep performance balanced and to ensure vehicles enhance roleplay rather than overwhelm it, all motorized or electrically powered vehicles require an official Great Lakes Motor Vehicle Permit.
Permits are rented in Lindens and cover cars, trucks, motorcycles, and other motor or electric vehicles. Hand-carts, brahmin wagons, and other hand- or beast-drawn vehicles do not require a permit when used occasionally.
Why a Permit?
-
Vehicles place extra demand on the sim: prims, scripts, physics, and sound.
-
Permits ensure that only a manageable number of vehicles are active at any given time.
-
Permits help keep travel, escapes, and settlements fair for everyone.
Permit Benefits
-
Authorization to drive across all Fallout: Great Lakes regions.
-
Ability to park your vehicle within your faction area or settlement zone when not in use.
-
Access to sanctioned vehicle RP (convoys, chases, cargo hauling, etc.).
General Use Guidelines
-
Motor or electric vehicles only. Animal- or hand-powered vehicles are free to use without a permit on a temporary basis.
-
Lore-appropriate design. Vehicles should reflect the Fallout universe (rusted, salvaged, improvised, or retro-futuristic). No modern sports cars, luxury vehicles, or immersion-breaking designs.
-
Prim and Script Limits. Maximum 80 prims per vehicle. No temp-rez tricks.
-
Owner-Only Use. Vehicle controls must be restricted to the owner. No group, guest, or shared access.
-
No Excessive Sounds. Disable alarms, non-lore music, or loud sirens. Emergency vehicles require admin approval for siren use.
-
Permit Holder Responsibility. Each permit is tied to a single avatar. They are non-transferable and non-shareable.
-
Respect Storytelling. Driving is not for showboating. Use vehicles to add drama, tension, or realism — whether that’s a trading caravan, a raider escape, or just parking your junker outside the saloon.

Enforcement & Consequences
-
Vehicles in use without a permit may be ejected or returned by staff.
-
Repeat violations can result in loss of permit eligibility.
-
Approved vehicle permits are a privilege meant to enrich roleplay, not dominate it.
How to Apply
Permits are available through the Fallout: Great Lakes Vehicle Office in-sim. Pay the rental terminal in Lindens to receive your vehicle tag. Once active, your permit will remain valid for the rental period, after which it must be renewed.
